  1. We had a mixed bag of reviews at the meeting. The good reviews loved the insights into the harshness of life in Moscow and the wonderful writing on the relationship with the grandmother. The negative reviews cane from the portrayal of the depressing lives that people led and the fact that the story/action really happened in the last part of the book. Overall, most thought it an interesting book and were happy that they had read it.
