The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction 2014

Our last book before the Summer break and it promises to be a great read. The meeting is at 5pm on Tuesday 2nd June.
” Aged thirteen, Theo Decker, son of a devoted mother and an absent father, miraculously survives a catastrophe that otherwise tears his life apart. Alone and rudderless in New York, he is taken in by the family of awealthy friend. Theo is tormented by longing for his mother and down the years he clings to the thing that most reminds him of her: a small captivating painting that ultimately draws him into the criminal underworld.”

One Response to The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction 2014

  1. General consensus was that the book was interesting and worth the effort but all agreed that they wished it had been shorter. Some of the story lines were dragged out. Some of the group had read other books by Donna Tartt and couldn’t praise her writing highly enough especially The Secret History. Quite few in the group hadn’t got to the end for the meeting but wanted to continue with it so that’s a recommendation or compliment in itself
